3 Common lip problems solved

Our lip cells are more vulnerable as compared to the rest of the skin in our body as it consists of only a few layers of facial skin unlike the rest of the face, due to which we can see the blood vessels in our lips. Lips are more likely to dry out as they do not have any sweat glands or hair, due to which they are prone to infections.

Some of the most common lip problems include:

Dry or chapped lips

Causes of chapped or dry lips include:

  • Poor nutrition
  • Matte lipsticks
  • Fever
  • Allergic reactions
  • Dehydration
  • Breathing through the mouth
  • Climatic conditions
  • Allergic reactions
  • Solution for chapped lips shall include:
  • Moisturize lips with balms or other natural oils.
  • Hydrate the body by drinking plenty of water and other fluids.
  • Exfoliate the dry skin off using lips scrubs bought from the market or ones make at home using natural ingredients like sugar and honey.
  • Use lip products with sunscreen.

Cold sores

Causes of cold sores shall include:

  • Extreme temperatures
  • Infections from using old cosmetics or kissing
  • Stress
  • Sunburn
  • Fever
  • Cosmetic treatments like peels or laser
  • Allergies
  • Menstrual cycle
  • Solutions for cold sores on the lips include:
  • Apply cooled natural Aloe Vera gel to the sore area to reduce inflammation. It can even prevent the occurrence of any fungal or bacterial infection.
  • Visit the doctor and get the prescription for anti-viral medication.

Darkened lips

Causes for darkened lips shall include:

  • Genetics
  • Sun exposure
  • Pigmentation
  • Smoking
  • Excessive caffeinated beverages
  • Hormonal imbalance
  • Licking lips excessively
  • Certain drugs and medication

Solutions for darkened lips include:

  • Apply a mixture of lemon juice and honey to the lips once a day and wash off when it is dry.
  • To lighten the lips, stop all the above factors that can cause darkened lips. And still if the lips show no sign of improvement, visit a doctor to find the cause behind your darkened lips.
