Things to Know About Microneedling

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a facial procedure where the skin is stung using tiny needles. This procedure can improve collagen production and smooth skin surface. The idea is to use the body’s natural ability to heal, and when the needle makes tiny hits, the produced collage will aid in recovery. The term “collagen induction therapy” is another name for microneedling. The procedure of microneedling is performed by a dermatologist or one can use a derma-roller with minimal needle exposure.

Benefits of Microneedling

  • Scar treatment: Microneedling can help treat acne scars on the skin. The healing process triggered by the needle pokes heals both the wounds and the pre-existing scars.
  • Treat enlarged pores: The healing process starts when the needles pierce the epidermis and form tiny tunnels. Depending on the intensity of the condition, 2 to 3 sessions per week might be required.
  • Hyperpigmentation: The mild wounds created upon the skin, leads to an increase in the production of elastin and collagen. The recovery mechanism of the skin will aid to treat the excess melanin in a particular area of the skin.
  • Wrinkles and fine lines: Following treatment, the skin will produce substances that will help the skin recover and fill in the wrinkles and fine lines.
  • To treat stretch marks: Microneedling can also be used to treat the marks left behind when the skin expands.
  • Improved skin texture: This treatment can supposedly make the skin’s surface smoother and help with the tiny bumps that distort the texture.

Microneedling Results

The process and the outcomes will change depending on the person’s skin condition. To clearly observe the results, it usually takes 4 to 6 weeks and about 3 to 6 sessions. Depending on how severe the condition is, there can be swings.

Does Microneedling Hurt?

As this treatment involves using needles and puncturing the outer layer, the cliché that beauty is pain may apply. The discomfort may persist when pricked with needles. To make the process less uncomfortable, the dermatologist doing it may use numbing cream.

Is Microneedling Good for the Skin?

Microneedling is an effective method to treat pre-existing acne scars, burn scars, and surgery scars. It is advisable to opt for the procedure when the skin condition is not in its active form but when there are only scars left behind to treat.
