6 Foods that can Help Prevent the Flu

We are all painstakingly taking precautions to prevent getting the flu. But apart from these precautions, we can also give a light boost to our immune system, to fight the flu. There are some foods that can help keep the flu away.

So keep your kitchen stocked with these flu fighting foods:

  • Chicken soup

It’s the age old recipe of getting rid of flu and other infections. Usually when people are sick they lose their appetite. Chicken soup or broth is a great way to pump in the fluids but also giving your body the energy that it needs. Chicken has anti-inflammatory properties that prevent the white blood cells from clogging the respiratory tract.

  • Green Tea

Green tea is good for the overall health of your body. It is rich in polyphenols and catechins that help fight off infections and improve the immunity of your body. So drink up that green tea cheering to good health.

  • Citrus fruits

All of us have heard the saying that Vitamin C rich foods keep the colds away. Foods rich in Vitamin C are rich in antioxidants that free the body of radicals and other toxins in it.

  • Beef

Beef is a meat that is rich in zinc. Zinc is known to increase the production of white blood cells in the body. White blood cells fight off the infection and also reduce its symptoms. So load of on food that is rich in zinc such as beef, chickpeas, lentils and greens.

  • Sardines

Stinky sardines do a lot of good for our health. They are rich source of Vitamin D that most of us are lacking due to lack of exposure to the sun. What we don’t know is that Vitamin D is essential to build and enforce our immunity and defense of our body against all infections and viruses.

  • Ginger

Sometimes the flu also comes accompanied with vomiting along with the cold or fever. Ginger is full of properties such as galanolactone that affect the serotonin levels that help alleviate nausea and vomiting.

So fight the virus away by filling up on these flu fighting foods.
