Stay Fit Safely: 4 Tips for People With Diabetes – Harvard Health

Are you looking for the best tips for people with diabetes? Harvard Medical school has provided four amazing activities to stay healthy and fit for a long time. The diabetic patient should be physically active to manage the glucose level. You need to follow certain tips to stay fit.

The Best Tips for People With Diabetes

Check Your Sugar Level

You must consult with diabetologists regarding diabetes diet plan before you make any alterations. People with heart disease, diabetic neuropathy or peripheral vascular disease may experience overweight issues that can be controlled or reduced only after consulting with a physician.

Diabetes outpatients, who are 35 or above and having diabetes for more than 10 years must do a complete physical test plus exercise stress exam. This exam marks blood pressure and heart performance while you exercise on a treadmill for 10 minutes. By doing this test, it will determine a positive result about your physical fitness.

Continue the Activity for a Week

As per the guidance of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, adults should involve in aerobic activity for 150 minutes or in vigorous activity or both for at least 75 minutes. Experts are strongly suggesting you indulge in exercise or any physical activity at least for 3-5 days a week.

Perfect Time for Exercise

You must exercise for 3 hours after having food, which is considered to be the best time because that will be a time when your sugar glucose might be higher. It is important to watch your sugar level when you are using insulin during exercise.

If the sugar level is less than 100mg/dL then you must eat fruit or eat a small snack to boost up. It will also prevent hypoglycemia. Additionally, you need to test again after half an hour to observe the blood sugar to find out the stability.

It is always better to keep an eye on your blood sugar after doing an exhausting workout or physical activity. If you are using insulin spells then that may cause the risk of hypoglycemia to the highest for 6-12 hours after a workout. Experts also advise you against exercising where your blood sugar may rise over 250.

Be Prepared

It is very important to tell people who care for you that you have diabetes because while exercising you may face the medical problem. One simple way to do a workout is while wearing a bracelet, watch or any other accessories or jewelry that symbolizes like you have diabetes (includes that you take insulin). Don’t forget to carry hard candy or glucose pills with you during your physical activity because your sugar level may rise at its peak.

As per Harvard Health, you will stay active and fit for a long time if you start to follow these four tips for people with diabetes regularly.
