Diabetes and Stroke

Before getting to know about diabetes and stroke, let’s know what is Stroke? Stroke occurs when blood supply to the brain is suddenly interrupted. Most strokes happen because of blood clots in the blood vessels, brain or neck. 

A stroke can cause multiple health issues like movement problems, numbness, speaking problems. Some people also have emotional problems, such as depression, after a stroke.

Main Types of Stroke Are:

  • Ischaemic: Ischaemia is generally caused by problems with blood vessels or dysfunction of tissues. The stroke happens when blood clot forms in the brain.      
  • Haemorrhagic: It is caused when a blood vessel in the brain bursts and causes brain damage.

What Is the Connection between Diabetes and Stroke?

People with high blood glucose level have an increased risk of getting a stroke. Your chances of having a stroke are 1.5 times more than in people who don’t have diabetes. One thing you can do to lower your risk of Diabetes and Stroke is to take care of your health.

Signs and Symptoms of Stroke:

After recognizing the signs and symptoms of a stroke, it is a crucial period. You have to take the first step to reach out for help. To do so first recognize the symptoms  

  • Facial drooping on a particular side
  • Trouble seeing 
  • a severe headache  
  • Speech problem 
  • Muscle weakness and numbness 
  • Sudden confusion or trouble understanding  

Risk Factors: 

Other than diabetes, there are many health problems which further raise the risk of stroke

  • Depression
  • Having a history of heart disease 
  • Obesity 
  • Bleeding disorders
  • Having high blood pressure
  • Elevated high cholesterol level
