Why Dietary Supplements Aren’t Effective Enough for Losing Weight?

Can I use tablets to lose weight? To lead a healthy lifestyle, you need food, not pills. If losing weight is as easy as consuming pills then people would have stopped exercising daily. Read our blog to figure out whether supplements are effective for weight loss or not.

Big Claims With Little Evidence

The supplements that are used for weight loss are Vitamin B12,omega-3 fatty acids, calcium, and green tea supplements. The benefits of taking these supplements are “flipping a switch in your body” “revving up your metabolism” and “signaling your cells to burn fat.”However, researchers found little evidence to prove that they are great for weight loss.

Vitamin B12

Whether it is a pill or an expensive injection, you shouldn’t take Vitamin B12 to improve your metabolism and burn fat. At present, there is no proper evidence that shows it helps with losing weight. Take vitamin B12 only if your body requires the support for your nerves and blood cells to generate DNA. It is always better if you eat something which contains a high source of B12 including whole-grain cereal, a tuna salad sandwich, beef liver and clams, and an egg frittata.

Calcium

Some studies claim that calcium supplements boost the breakdown of fat in your cells. Other studies say calcium has the ability to absorb fat from food. Many researchers discovered there is no relation between weight loss and calcium consumption. You should include calcium-rich foods including dark leafy greens, tofu, and low-fat dairy products in your diet.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids

A few studies claim that omega-3 fatty acids help lose weight. Omega-3 fatty acids are a great addition to stay healthy. As stated by the American Heart Association, it may protect your blood vessels and heart from disease. Foods that contain omega-3 are mackerel, Salmon, herring, sardines, lake trout, and tuna. Try broiling, baking, grilling instead of frying them.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D plays an important role to keep your bones strong and helps regulate the absorption of calcium and phosphorus. However, experts are not convinced that vitamin D helps lose weight. The 2014 research published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition discovered that postmenopausal women with overweight consumed vitamin D tablets and gained healthy or “replete” levels of this nutrient lost rather than losing weight. Hence, more study is required to learn how vitamin D pills affect people with overweight. You can eat herring, tuna, and mackerel that contain high levels of vitamin D. You can go for a walk and expose your body to sunlight which helps your body to produce vitamin D.

Green tea

Whether it is a cup of green tea or green tea supplements, it won’t help lose your weight as you think. Instead, you should follow activities like a bike ride or a brisk walk to melt the fat. Green tea consists of antioxidant properties that help protect your heart. The 2012 research published in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews stated that green tea supplements have the least promoting potential for weight loss.

Conclusion

You should focus on eating healthy food and exercise more to lose weight. Dietary supplements don’t promote weight loss rather than wasting your money. You should start gardening to help burn more calories.
