5 Ways to get rid of a Stye

A stye is an infection in the eye that causes a lot of discomfort. It is formed by a bacteria usually found on healthy skin, especially of the sebaceous gland of the eyelids. It is usually not a serious condition but can cause a lot of discomfort if it gets infected.  Are you fed up of them appearing? Are you suffering from the pain or inflammation of this stye?

Don’t worry you can rid of these tiny pus filled boils or styes. These methods can even prevent the re occurrence of these styes.

  • Leave it alone

If they are small and you avoid touching the area they usually disappear. They burst and all the pus drains out leaving you with an infection free area.

  • Clean the area

Sometimes a stye appears due to poor hygiene of the face, mainly caused by the deposit of oil and other secretions that are not washed away. Do not use your hands to clean the area. Instead use an antibacterial face wash or baby shampoo and wipe the area with a sterile cotton ball.

  • Hot compress

Dip a clean cloth in hot water and apply to the affected area. The heat will bring the pus out and help the boils or stye burst to release the infection.

  • Pull out the infected eyelash

This method can be easily followed if the stye is at the base of the lid, where it connects the eyelash. By pulling out the eyelash what you’re actually doing is to allow the infection drain out from the hair follicle.

  • Suction or draining

This method involves draining out the stye. This method is usually done at the doctor’s clinic as it involves the use of a pain killer injection after which a sterile needle is used to puncture the boil or inflamed area and drain it out of all the pus.

Do not hesitate to contact your doctor in case of any emergencies that may arise out of infection in the area.

Additional tips:

  • Do not share your face towels or face products such as soap, makeup etc… with anyone.
  • To prevent re occurrence wash your lashes with a mild baby shampoo.
  • Always wash your hands after touching your eyelid.
