This progressive lung disease is commonly called as COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) and causes a lot of pain and difficulty to the patients suffering from this disease in the long run. This disease is mainly caused by the entry of irritants in your lungs that obstruct the passage of air.

Here are the most common causes of COPD:

  • Smoking

This is the most common cause of COPD. Smokers know the health hazards of smoking and still they turn a blind eye to its harmful effects. COPD can also be caught by inhaling smoke from cigars, pipe or other form or inhaled tobacco.

  • Passive smoking

The innocent by standers of smokers also can get affected by smoke they are exposed to. Breathing in the smoke of others is sufficient to get COPD.

  • Asthma

Asthma patients can sometimes get COPD. It is rare but sometimes the asthma can progress to a severe or serious stage where it transforms into COPD. So never ignore asthma before it gets worse and turns into another life threatening disease.

  • Pollution and fumes

With all the vehicles on the road, the fumes, toxin and other chemicals we inhale have become inevitable. The only solution is to wear a mask to at least partially prevent the inhalation of these fumes and toxins.

  • Genetic

This is the rarest reason to acquire COPD. If you have a defect in your DNA or genes that causes AAT (Alpha Antitrypsin Deficiency) then the body does not have enough protein in the lung to fight against to protect the lungs from damage.

So here are the most common reasons that have been a cause of shortness of breath in many.
