Why does Climate Change Matter for Human Health?

The connection between human beings and nature deteriorated over time as human beings drifted away toward modernization and industrialization. Our health can have a significant impact on the environment in which we live. The pollution and the global warming that human beings inflicted come in a circle affecting climatic change cause its impact on our health.

Heat waves and melting glaciers are occurring all over the world as a result of global warming. There are also calamities like storms, floods, and droughts where the earth’s fertility and bearing capacity are affected. These calamities and conditions have a direct impact on the way our body functions and our health.

Human health effects

As a result of the evolution of climate change, effects that already exist may get worse or new conditions may evolve that influence human health. The impacts of the changes are most likely to affect children, the elderly, and people living with a lack of essential conditions. The external changes will have an impact on the internal regulation of one’s body temperature, leading to various conditions. Climate effects on health can include:

  • Heat strokes: When the body loses its control over the regulation of temperature, there is an impact with the rapid increase in the temperature and the sweat mechanism.
  • Hyperthermia: In this state, the body either produces or absorbs more heat than it can expel.
  • Hypothermia: This condition is the opposite of hypothermia, where the body loses temperature, lesser than the rate of production, leading to a rapid decrease in the body’s temperature.
  • Frostbite: Exposure to extremely low temperatures will lead to freezing of the skin and tissues underneath.

It can worsen already existing conditions like:

  • Cardiovascular diseases: The fluctuation in the temperature impacts the heart rhythm and brings in irregularities with its function.
  • Respiratory disorders: The increase in temperature will lead to air and water pollution. The contamination will aggravate infections and existing chronic conditions like asthma, rhinosinusitis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
  • Cerebrovascular diseases: Climatic changes can increase the chances of stroke, migraine, and seizures as the fluctuation in temperature can have an impact on the function of the neuron and its mechanism.

    Excluding extremities

Natural disasters can have a significant effect on one’s health and well-being. But even with no sudden catastrophes, cumulative changes might eventually affect one’s health and general well-being. One day, when the eventual alterations have accumulated to a certain point, the condition will get the attention of the human species.

The climatic changes that nature offers seasonally have its pattern and extremities. From the level of pollution and industrialization to the drilling of the earth’s surface through every layer, the human race has altered nature’s cycle. Nature is powerful enough to heal and regenerate itself. The impacts of human activities have led to climate change effects, acting like a domino fall, affecting our health and lives. Let us remember the earth we live on should not be exploited beyond boundaries, to feed our greed. Or else we will have to pay back.
