New Technology to Detect Irregular Heartbeat

Researchers have found an ingenious way to detect an irregular heartbeat known as atrial fibrillation(AFib) by using a technology-based necklace. Irregular heartbeats occur when the electric impulse that cooperates with your heartbeat doesn’t work properly, leading to making your heart either beat too fast or too slowly. An abnormal heartbeat can lead to various serious complications like stroke, heart failure, and cardiac arrest.

The major cause of the stroke is due to untreated atrial fibrillation. As atrial fibrillation is symptomless, the detection and diagnosis for this treatment are quite challenging. Still, many people are unaware of heart rhythm and irregular heartbeat. Hence the researchers and the scientists came up with a method of detecting atrial fibrillation using the “Electrocardio Matrix”.

Author Elmeri Santala from the University of Eastern Finland said that “The wearable necklace-ECG (electrocardiogram) provides a new and easy method for detecting an abnormal heart rhythm or atrial fibrillation, which is a fast-growing public health problem.”

Irregular heart rhythm is a more common disorder than other heart issues. Heartbeats are described in the pattern of heart rhythm. To diagnose the heart rhythm, a wearable necklace-ECG has been invented. To measure the heart rhythm, the users have to start an application on their smartphone and place their necklace between the chest and palm or between the palms of their hands for 30 seconds.

Then the analyzed data are automatically sent to the cloud service to analyze the atrial fibrillation using Artificial Intelligence(AI). After a few seconds, the result of the analysis will be displayed on the smartphone. By using Artificial Intelligence(AI) the ECG necklace produced a high-quality output to detect and diagnose atrial fibrillation (AFib).

So the research team concluded the study by reporting that an automated artificial intelligence(AI) analysis report of the necklace ECG is well suited for people above the age of 65 and those who are at a higher risk of stroke. The researchers believe that to maintain a healthy heart sooner or later this Electrocardio Matrix will be available for clinical practice and in the market.
