  •         Hyperventilation
  •          An acute awareness of the stomach

Easy Steps to Handle Motion Sickness

Take Control of Yourself

If you are sitting in the back seat, try sitting in the front passenger seat and focus on the horizon. It will help with motion sickness. It will surely control nausea even if you are riding on the back. Distract yourself or try having a conversation with others to escape the feeling of dizziness. Open a window for fresh air and avoid reading.

Stand If You Feel Nauseous

Choose a seat where you will experience less motion. Mostly the middle part of the airplane and the ship are best to travel. Stand up, if you can, and look out over the horizon.

Change Positions

Change positions in the vehicle in which you are traveling. Stand up if you can, lying down also helps. Experiment these to see what works for your body and mind and handle motion sickness yourself.

Avoid Acidic Foods

Avoid eating acidic or greasy foods while traveling. Have simple food items like- bread, milk, cereals, apple juice, bananas as these are easy to digest. But foods like sausage, orange juice, coffee, pancakes, and bacon are poor choices. Keep in mind to never overeat before your travel hours.

Keep Your Eyes on a Distant Object

Focus on a distant object while traveling, it will help your mind to handle motion sickness. Never read books while traveling especially if you are a person who experiences motion sickness regularly. Change positions in the vehicle if you can.

Medicate

If you are experiencing severe motion sickness which you can’t control, then you can take medications. The medicines include Meclizine or Dramamine which are very effective for the motion sickness problem. Scopolamine patches are to be used only for adults and not for the children. Use these medicines 30 minutes prior to travel.
