Skin allergies can be irritating, painful, and embarrassing. Allergies occur when your skin reacts to foreign substances. Allergic reactions can be caused by various factors. For some people, even wearing certain jewelry gives an allergic skin condition. Skin allergy symptoms differ from person to person. Here let’s discuss in detail about some common causes of skin allergies.

What Is the Main Cause of Skin Allergy?

Allergy causes when you touch, inhale or swallow an allergen. Allergen is nothing but substances that you are allergic to. For many people, allergens are harmless, but for some who are allergic, they cause allergic skin conditions.

Symptoms of an Allergic Reaction

The most common skin rashes and types of allergic reactions are

Eczema

Eczema, also known as atopic dermatitis, is a skin condition that affects 10 to 20 percent of children and 1 to 3 percent of adults. Studies say that nearly 11% of Americans have eczema.

The symptoms of eczema are dry, red, irritated, and itchy skin. In some cases, the skin may also have small, fluid-filled blisters that have a clear or yellowish liquid. Eczema commonly occurs on the eyebrows, hands, neck, and face. Heredity, asthma, hay fever, animal dander, cleaning products, and dust can cause eczema.

Hives

Hives scientifically known as urticaria are itchy, raised welts (splotches) or bumps found on the skin. Hives appear in different shapes and sizes- small and round, ring-shaped, or large and of random shape. This condition can be caused by medications, foods, insect bites, or infections. Hives usually fade within hours, if it lasts for more than six months, then it is called acute urticaria, and if it lasts for more than six months, then it’s called chronic urticaria. This condition may or may not itch the skin.

Contact Dermatitis

This allergic skin condition occurs when your skin comes in direct contact with the allergen. For instance, if you get a skin rash after wearing new jewelry, using different soap or skin care products, you might have contact dermatitis. The symptoms of contact dermatitis are redness, swelling, burning, blisters, bumps, rashes, cracking, and rashes. Sometimes if you have contact dermatitis, the allergic reaction won’t occur until the skin is exposed to sunlight. Excessive exposure to water can even cause this condition.

Angioedema

Angioedema is swelling with the red-colored rash in the deep layers (two skin layers) of the skin, caused by a build-up of fluids. It occurs as swelling in the soft tissues such as eyelids, lips, genitals, hands, and feet. The conditions also occur with the hives, and they may become severe. Allergies to food, medications, environment and insect bites can cause angioedema. In some cases, this condition can also cause serious medical conditions. Rarely people may experience swollen throats and also difficulty in breathing.
