Currently, there is no cure for HIV/AIDS. Once you are infected with the HIV virus, you can’t get rid of it, but there is the main medication called antiretroviral therapy (ART). It is to control the infection and prevent complications. Regardless of their age and stage, people who are diagnosed with HIV should start with ART.

What Is Antiretroviral Therapy (ART)?

Antiretroviral therapy (ART) is the main HIV aids treatment. It is a combination of three to four medications that fall under different drug classes. This combination of daily medication stops the virus from reproducing and also reduces the amount of HIV in the blood. It helps to protect CD4 cells, by keeping the immune system strong enough to fight against the disease.

ART not only keeps HIV from progressing to AIDS but also reduces the chances of transmitting the virus to others. Even after taking ART, the virus will still stay in the human body. It can be destroyed completely. And if the infected person stops taking antiretroviral therapy, the virus will increase again and it will start attacking CD4 cells.

Can HIV Be Cured Naturally?

Most people with HIV and AIDS prefer Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) in combination with traditional medical treatment in order to improve their health and well-being. And, a little evidence shows that CAM treatment can relieve some symptoms of HIV and AIDS infection, but there is no evidence showing that this treatment can completely work as an HIV cure.

There is research going on the use of CAM treatments to relieve the symptoms of HIV and Aids. The CAM treatments used to cure other illnesses are

  • Body Therapy

Body therapies like massage and acupuncture can help people with HIV infection to reduce the pain. Massaging helps to improve the feeling of overall health and also reduces stress and depression. Acupuncture can help with nausea and other side effects caused due to treatment.

  • Relaxation Therapy

Yoga and meditation are the best therapy to reduce anxiety and stress. By doing meditation on a regular basis helps to cope up with the stress caused by HIV infection. Yoga not only reduces depression but also improves the CD4 levels that improve the immunity system.

  • Herbal Medicine

Herbal medicine cannot be used without consulting a doctor and there is not enough evidence to show that herbal medicine can work as a cure for HIV and aids cure. But, these herbal medicines can improve one’s immunity system.

  • Marijuana

There is little evidence that shows that medical marijuana will work well with modern HIV management medications. But still, people with HIV should consult their healthcare provider before using marijuana to treat their symptoms. They will monitor for possible drug interactions or respiratory complications.

And just because a treatment is natural does not mean it’s safe. Some of these treatments can interact with certain medications. People with HIV or AIDS should tell their healthcare provider if they’re interested in using CAM to help manage their symptoms.
