Everything About Migraine Relief Kit

A migraine is a frequent neurological condition that causes throbbing and pulsing pain on one side of the head for an extended period of time. Some people can get severe migraines that linger for days or even weeks, which can interfere with daily activities and last for hours at a time. Read along to know in detail about migraine and the essential items to keep in your migraine relief kit.

Causes of migraine

The aberrant brain activity is thought to be the primary cause of migraine headaches because it momentarily alters the brain chemicals, nerve signals, and brain activity. It is believed that migraines are inherited, however, there is no conclusive study to support this. Poor sleep, exhaustion, the tension in the neck or shoulders, low blood sugar, high or low blood pressure, irregular eating patterns, dehydration, excessive caffeine and alcohol consumption, hormonal changes such as stress, anxiety, tension, and depression, and exposure to bright lights, flickering screens, smoking, and loud noises can all cause migraine headaches.

Symptoms of migraine

A migraine has four stages. They are prodrome, aura, headache, and postdrome. Prodrome is the initial stage, followed by the aura, a warning sign of an impending headache, and the postdrome, the concluding stage. There are times when migraines don’t have any symptoms. The following are a few typical migraine signs and symptoms:

  • Feeling weary or unwell
  • Heightened sensitivity to sound and light
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Visual issues including zigzag patterns, flashing lights, or blind spots
  • Feeling lightheaded or unsteady
  • Difficulty speaking
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Bloating
  • Sweating
  • Experience ringing in the ears
  • Yearning for food or an appetite decrease

What helps a migraine fast?

The headache can be relieved with a hot heating pad. When placed on the neck and back of the shoulder, a hot water bag can ease a headache.

Ultimate Emergency Migraine Relief Kit

Below listed are the essential items to keep in your migraine relief kit:

  • Water bottle – Keep yourself hydrated at all times with a water bottle. Migraines may be brought on by inadequate hydration.
  • Sunglasses or blue light glasses – To avoid the sensitivity to light that might cause a migraine, wear blue light-blocking eyewear while using a computer, viewing movies, using a phone, and wearing sunglasses on bright days.
  • Earbuds – Keep a set of foam-made earbuds in your pocket for usage while around loud noises.
  • Cold pack – A cold compress can give migraine sufferers immediate relief. It is reported that applying cold to the back of the shoulders can offer some relief.
  • Anti-nausea medicines – While having a migraine, some people experience nausea and vomiting. It is advised to speak with a healthcare professional, get some anti-nausea medications prescribed, and travel with an airsickness bag that can be used for throwing up.
  • An eye mask – Some claim that taking a nap in a silent, dark environment might relieve migraine symptoms. Although we may not always have access to a silent, dark area, we can always carry an eye mask.

What do they give for migraines in the ER?

Some people’s migraines become so bad that they must be taken to the ER (emergency room). The ER medical professional will recommend medications based on the patient’s condition.
