7 Reasons why your hands and feet have been tingling

Many of us ignore tingling or pricking pains in our hands or feet. Those sharp sensations just last a while and re quickly forgotten.
If they are fleeting moments then there is nothing to worry. But if these tingling sensations persist then you might have to visit a doctor to get examined to understand what is affecting you.

Doctors state that the progression of these tingling sensations is usually the result of some underlying condition.

Here are 7 reasons as to why you might have tingling in your hand and feet:

1)    A vitamin deficiency

If you spot a tingling sensation not just in one hand and are also feeling tired and lethargic then the deficiency of Vitamin B12 might be the reason. Get a blood test to get checked. If the deficiency is confirmed, supplements and injections will resolve it.

2)    A pinched nerve

Do you have a tingling that radiates from the neck or the back to the hands or feet then you might have a pinched nerve that could have been caused by an injury, poor posture or an underlying condition like arthritis.
Physical therapy is the best way to get rid of the tingling.

3)    Cervical or spinal stenosis

A narrowing of the space in the spinal canal can cause pressure on the spine or the spinal nerves that can cause tingling. It can be diagnosed by an MRI or CT scan and can be cured with physical therapy, epidural injection or surgery, depending on the extent of the stenosis.

4)    Carpal tunnel syndrome

If you have been using your hands too much whether it is to use electronic gadgets or using power tools then such repetitive motions or vibrations might compress a nerve in your hands that is causing the tingling.
EMG and ultrasound will help diagnose it. The best way to fix it is to change your lifestyle, go in for physical therapy, anti-inflammatory drugs or even surgery.

5)    Diabetes

High blood sugar acts as toxin to the nerves and can cause tingling. The best way to get rid of this tingling sensation is to get your blood sugar in control with medication and changes to your lifestyle.

6)    Multiple sclerosis

If you are suffering from tingling sensations along with doubl vision, clumsiness, different bowel movements then multiple sclerosis might be the problem. An MRI will help you detect the same.
There are medications available to slow down the progression of the disease.

7)    Hypothyroidism

If you spot unexplained weight fluctuations, hair loss, and dry skin or suffer from sensitivity to cold and fatigue along with the tingling then you can always take a blood test to diagnose your thyroid levels and might find an underactive thyroids level.
